A collection of all of my rants and ramblings about the television shows I watch and the people who make them. There will also be the occasional post about my life. =D

Community Rewatch- 3x01, 3x02, & 3x03

Hello again, friends!! On to Community's fantastic third season! So excited! Now the first couple of episodes aren't fantastic, but after the fourth, the season really kicks off! So what are we all waiting for? Let's do it!

3x01- Biology 101

Episode Rundown- The season three premiere is a little spotty. It begins with a fabulous song and dance number in which they promise to be more normal this year. Yeah, somehow I doubt that. Anyway, this cuts to the study room, where Annie's concerned about what they'll do without Pierce and Dean comes with facial hair. They go to Biology class, which Jeff gets kicked out of and Pierce takes his place, and for some reason, Chang is living in the vents with Annie's Boobs. Also, there's a new sheriff in town by the name of Vice Dean Laybourne of the air conditioning repair school and he'll soon play an important role in the show, mainly in Troy's life. Anyway, everyone's having a great time with Pierce and Jeff gets super jealous, so he axes the study room table. Yeah. Guy's got some issues, there. Eventually everyone makes up and Jeff gets back into Biology. Yayyy! The tag is Annie fixing the table and Britta announcing she's now a psych major because she wants to be a therapist. Everyone thinks she'll be bad at it.

What Was Great
~ The opening number, "Finally Be Fine." Hilarious. I was actually crying I was laughing so hard.
~ Everyone thinking Troy and Abed were going to announce they were gay and then being relieved when they said they moved in together. So funny!
~ "If you want to get us a gift, we're registered at Linens N Things." "We have plenty of Linens. We mainly just want the things."
~ The Dean is perfect. "How do you like me now, bitches?" and "Homie don't Dean this!"
~ "Ah Starburns! I see you added a lizard to the hat and sideburns. Am I missing anything?" "Yeah, the human being underneath it all, but no one's really interested in that, are they?" "No..."
~ Jeff and his cell phone- "Jeez, the vibrate's louder than the ringer!" So great.
~ Leonard! <3
~ "Jeff, what happened? You look... seventy."
~ Jeff sprinting in with an axe and everyone running away screaming. Oh man. So hilarious.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Abed's freakouts. They're annoying.
~ Chang, always.
~ Troy going wayyy too far in insulting Britta. And they're supposed to have a romantic thing? Please.
~ That creepy scene where Pierce and Jeff switch bodies and he eats his cell phone and he's in a hospital bed. It's... strange.
~ The tag was boring.

Rating
I would give this episode a seven out of ten. It had its moments, but the show hasn't yet found its groove again yet.

3x02- Geography of Global Conflict

Episode Rundown- This was probably my least favorite episode of the season, for a couple reasons. Annie has an enemy named Annie Kim and decides to one-up this bitch by creating a model UN and gets the entire group involved, sans Britta. Speaking of Britta, she discovers her protesting friend is locked up in Syria and goes on a rampage the entire episode about equal rights for all the countries in the world. Chang somehow gets involved and the two have the creepiest scenes together. Blegh. Jeff praises the shit out of Annie and she responds by throwing a temper tantrum about winning the UN contest thing. She does win, no thanks to her, and Britta crashes in a black unitard with charred Barbie parts attached to her. Chang tases her. And that's pretty much it. Oh, and the tag involves Troy and Abed playing Operation on a sleeping Pierce. So good.

What Was Great
~ "I've got a backpack, new pencils, ooh! And one of those see-through yellow pens that lets you color in words." "Highlight?" "Probably the backpack." So funny!
~ "An Asian Annie- Obama's America." Oh Pierce...
~ Troy, referencing Britta's rant- "Looks like somebody woke up on the regular side of the bed." LOL.
~ Britta- "I haven't been tear-gassed in so long..."
~ Troy removing the lid from Annie's cup so she stops making the annoying straw sound. So, so good.
~ Britta smacking Chang in the face. I wish I could do that...
~ The tag!

What Wasn't So Great
~ The episode in general. Ugh.
~ Too much Chang.
~ Britta's batshit crazy in this episode and her scenes with Chang were skeevy.
~ Jeff/Annie. 'Nuff said.
~ The fart joke. Aren't we too old for this?

Rating
I would give this episode a six out of ten. Definitely my least favorite of the season.

3x03- Competitive Ecology

Episode Rundown- This episode wasn't as bad as the one before it, but it still wasn't my favorite. In Biology, their assignment is to construct a terrarium with wildlife and Professor Kane tells them the person they're seated across from is their partner for the entire semester. They ask him if they can partner up amongst themselves, he okays this, and the groups are Shirley and Britta, Troy and Abed, Jeff and Annie, and Pierce and newcomer Todd. Then, they stay up all night fixing and remixing the groups so that no one has to work with Todd. This culminates in Britta trying to burn their popularity list and instead ends up burning Todd's turtle. He screams at them and leaves and, exhausted because they'd stayed up all night, the group heads to Biology class and fails the assignment, so Annie faints. Then the tag involves Britta giving the group practice evaluations for her psych class. But the answers form penises...

What Was Great
~ The way they all break up with their lab partners- Annie, "It's not you, it's me!" Britta, "I'm just trying to protect us from more pain down the road." Abed, "I may have a developmental disorder." Troy, "I need to catch up on Breaking Bad, so..." Shirley, "I'm so sorryyyyy..." Jeff, "I have a developmental disorder. Star Wars, Star Wars, cool cool cool." and Pierce, "You're also a very weird looking man. I don't know you, I don't trust you, and I don't think I could grow to like you."
~ "Here's Ben with a cupcake! And here he is crying because he dropped his cupcake! And here he is with another cupcake! ... Oh wait, these pictures are out of order. That's the same cupcake." Her delivery of that line is hysterical.
~ "Who the hell are you always texting? Everyone you know is here!!"
~ "You too, Brute?!"
~ "Pierce, wake up! Jeff is gonna heal us!" "Oh! I just had a terrible nightmare that Jeff was a pompous ass!"
~ "What is wrong with you people?! Huh?! I thought you were supposed to be friends!! I thought you were supposed to love each other!! Your love is weird... And toxic! And it destroys everything it touches!!"
~ The tag!

What Wasn't So Great
~ Chang is so freaking annoying.
~ Troy and Britta. Bleh.
~ Todd is irritating, no offense. "None taken!"
~ Annie going out of her way to insult Britta, now. Lame.

Rating
I would give this episode a seven out of ten. Again, it had its moments but it wasn't fabulous.

But the next one is, so stay tuned!

The Candidate Still Breaks My Heart

Good afternoon, blogging world! Today's rant will be about Lost, as if you couldn't tell. Season six, episode fourteen. This is "The Candidate." But this episode doesn't really focus on who the Candidate is. It focuses on who the Candidate is not.

There's your Candidate names and numbers, above. Locke's name is crossed out because he's dead, but five others are viable for the spot. However, I need to talk about how heartbreaking this episode really is, because I feel like it's overlooked when people talk about the "strongest" or the "best" episodes of Lost. For me, this one is definitely up there. And here's why.

The episode begins with Sawyer, Hurley, Kate, Claire, Jin, Sun, and Frank being held at gunpoint in the cages at the Hydra Station. When Sawyer somehow manages to acquire a gun and holds Widmore's clan responsible, Widmore himself responds by holding a gun to Kate's head and saying he'll shoot her if Sawyer doesn't enter the cage with the rest of them. She calls Widmore's bluff, but he responds with, "I have a list of names. Ford, you're on it. As are Reyes and the Kwons. Kate Austen? She's not. It doesn't matter to me whether she lives or dies." So Sawyer relinquishes. Later, Kate gets all hot and bothered and tells Sawyer Widmore really wouldn't have killed her, but Sawyer, who's seen the list of Candidates, tells her otherwise.

And for some reason, this is just heartbreaking moment number one for me. When Sawyer says, "Your name was there too, but it was crossed out. He doesn't need you, Kate," the look on her face makes my heart hurt. I mean, here she is, thinking she's just as important as the rest of the people that Widmore has stuffed in that cage and then, out of the blue, she learns that actually, she's just a spare. She could die at any moment and it wouldn't matter to Widmore or anyone else on the Island because she doesn't matter. She's not the Candidate. Later we learn why, but for now, we're left wondering and saddened, just like Kate is.

So then, the Smoke Monster appears and kills all of Widmore's people and Jack comes to the rescue to get everyone out of the cage. It's a really intense scene and we're left wondering if they're going to make it out alive. They do, miraculously, and Kate asks Jack, hopefully, if this means he'll be making the trip home with them. But ever-stubborn Jack denies this and tells her, "I'll take you to the plane, but I'm not getting on it. I'm sorry, Kate, but I'm not meant to go." She looks pretty devastated by this, which would be my heartbreaking moment number two, because she loves this incredibly stubborn guy and would like nothing more for him to come along, but he's got tunnel vision on his mission to save the Island and will not be joining them.

Anyway, their plane plan gets thwarted somehow but it's okay, because Sawyer has a plan B. They plan, instead to take the submarine and when Locke tries to sneak a ride, or so they think, Jack pushes him into the ocean. In the confusion, shots are fired by Widmore's clan and Kate gets shot in the shoulder. In a panic, Jack ends up going with the group anyway because he wants to tend to Kate's wound. But, before we even get to the submarine, let's talk about this:

Sayid goes in the submarine after Jack and Kate and Sawyer, seeing Locke get out of the water, shuts the submarine in a panic even though Claire has not yet gotten inside. Now, I'm going to be honest. As the show went on, my dislike of Claire grew larger and larger. She's batshit crazy, super annoying, and outrageously irritating. But my heart absolutely broke for the poor girl when she realized she was being left behind again. The first time the Oceanic Six left the Island, she wasn't one of them and now, they're supposedly leaving a second time and once again, Claire is left behind. But then, we get an eerie sense of foreshadowing when Locke restrains Claire from swimming after them and tells her, "Trust me, you don't want to be on that sub." Locke, you sneaky son of a bitch...

Alright, back to the submarine. So Frank is up with the captain and everyone else is panicking over Kate, who's bleeding profusely from the shoulder and simultaneously freaking out because Claire had been left behind once more. Jack is visibly panicking, too, because he doesn't exactly have any medical supplies and this happens to be the girl he's in love with. He asks Jin to hand him his backpack to see if there's anything useful in there but instead of finding a first aid kit, he finds the C4 bomb Locke stole from the plane, the timer reading 3:54. Hurley asks where it came from and Jack responds, "Locke... We did exactly what he wanted." OH. SHIT.

And now, let's talk about this BAMF, Mr. Sayid Jarrah. First of all, he's a tragically damaged character, but he's a hero and he sacrificed himself so the rest of the group could live. After Jack and Sawyer have this super heated argument about what to do with the bomb, Sawyer goes against Jack's wishes and pulls the wires out of the bomb and miraculously, this stops the timer... For a moment. Then, the timer speeds up, the minutes ticking away like seconds, and so understandably the group panics. Sayid, seeing this, tells Jack where to find Desmond, who Locke wants dead, which means they'll need him immensely. Jack asks why he's telling him this and Sayid says, "Because it's going to be you, Jack," and sprints away with the bomb.

This is easily one of the most heroic things anyone has ever done on this show. First of all, I love Sayid despite his troubled past and I feel like the only reason he's done what he's done is because it's what he had to do to survive. Iraq is no joke and if he didn't roll with the punches and follow his orders, he'd most likely be dead. Second, it means so much that Sayid is willing to give his life for six people he only knew because of a plane crash. and third, this bittersweet scene also means something else- Sayid is not the Candidate, either.

And then, there's Jin and Sun. Words cannot even express how much I cried during this episode, but this scene is where I cried the most. In the aftermath of the bomb exploding, the submarine is slowly sinking to the bottom of the ocean and filling with water. Jack hands off Kate to Hurley and tells him to get her out of there. He says he has to go after Sayid, to which Jack responds, "There is no Sayid!" Rub salt into the wound a little more, why don't you? Anyway, falling debris has pinned Sun to the wall and the three guys fight to free her, but a giant piece of piping knocks Sawyer unconscious. Jack, struggling to hold Sawyer above water, agrees to leave when Jin asks him to, but says he'll leave the final oxygen tank behind for Jin and Sun, citing that he can make it to shore without it. Jin, sadly yet firmly, says, "No Jack, you can't. Just go." The two leave and Sun pleads with Jin to leave her, but he responds, "No. I won't leave you." So the two drown, hand in hand, at the bottom of the ocean.

First of all, I was still reeling from Sayid's death to fully process the fact that they were killing off two more of my beloved characters. But once I did... oh my God. The fact that he wouldn't leave is what got me the most. He could have saved himself and gone home to their daughter, which is what most of the fans wanted, but they spent the last three seasons separated and not by choice, so he stayed by her side. He died with her so- and this is the theme of the show, guys- she wouldn't have to die alone. It's just so beautiful and so tragic and I cannot even fathom it. Also, this is yet another scene that proves important- Jin and Sun aren't the Candidates, either.

And so, here we are. At the end of the episode and, frankly, at the end of the show. At the beginning, there had been 48 Oceanic Flight 815 survivors. Now, only four remain. From forty-eight to four. It's just so tragic and this scene, on the beach, is equally heart-wrenching. Jack drags Sawyer ashore and Hurley stumbles over with Kate, who is incredibly relieved to see Jack and clings to him, crying, "I couldn't find you! I couldn't find you!" He looks extra relieved, too, and clutches her just as closely. Hurley asks if Sawyer's okay, Jack affirms this, and then Kate asks the million-dollar question- "What about Jin and Sun?" A simple shake of the head tells both of them they hadn't made it. And as the three dissolve into tears- and I, by the way, join them- the scene cuts to Locke and Claire, still on the dock.

He tells Claire the submarine has sunk and she, in complete shock, expresses her fear of everyone being dead. Locke tells her they're not all dead and picks up his rifle. When Claire asks where he's going, he tells her, "To finish what I started."

And thus ends one of the most tragically beautiful episodes of Lost ever made. Fans can complain all they want; the main thing being that all this fuss about the Candidate and we still don't know who it is. Well, no, we may not, but we know who's not and that just gets us one step closer to who is. It's not Kate, it's not Sayid, it's not Jin, and it isn't Sun. So complain all you want, but the writers actually gave us a few clues, I think.

I just wish they didn't have to kill off three people to do so.

Community Rewatch- 2x22, 2x23, & 2x24

And here we are! The final three episodes of Community's second season! I'm actually pretty excited to move on to the third season, because I hardly remember it, even though it just finished a few months ago. But I also have a Lost rant coming your way, so Community is going to have to wait for just a bit. Plus my upcoming vacation, so... Anyway! Got off topic. Here we go, Human Beings!

2x22- Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts

Episode Rundown- As you can tell from the above picture, Baby Bennett makes his first appearance in this episode! This is the one where they're supposedly having their Anthropology final, but since Duncan didn't teach organically, they're actually all just drinking. Then the Dean enters the room with a representative from Dean Magazine, who's writing an article on him, and bears witness to the unorthodox exam. Duncan slips out, Shirley goes into labor, and Britta and Jeff taunt and tease each other about it the whole time. Chang goes into these nonsensical stories about his ancestors which irritated me to no extent and the Dean tells everyone, once he's left the room and made it back barely in one piece, that his multinational food festival has caused a "race kerfuffle." Eventually, Andre makes it to Shirley's side and Britta delivers their baby boy, who they name Ben after Chang. Nawww! And the tag is Troy and Abed pulling the fire alarm and then realizing it's fake, conning the Dean into canceling classes for the day. Classic Troy and Abed!

What Was Great
~ "Throw paper balls at her until she sits down." Oh Duncan...
~ "And that is what Jews do at weddings. Anthropology!"
~ The Dean. He's just perfect.
~ "Women have a connectedness to their bodies that you would never understand." "You have a booger." "I know... It's a part of me."
~ Abed bringing to light the fact that he delivered a baby and Shirley not wanting him to deliver hers. Can't blame her, there.
~ "Jeff, Pierce bought the rights to our handshake with blood money and now we can't get the magic back!" "Holy crap you two. For real?" "Yeah." "No one cares about your stupid handshake. A baby is coming out of Shirley's vagina two feet from us!"
~ Annie's reaction to Abed telling her she now has to deliver the baby- "I can't do that! I have to take a class or shadow a nurse or at least have my mom hug me first! Oh God! Oh God! I'm seeing spots!"
~ "Do you believe that's how we come into the world? Screaming, crying, covered in crap? And somewhere along the line we get it into our heads that we're destined for greatness." "We are. I just yanked a little dude out of my friend!" "I guess we passed Anthropology." "Look how teeny his hands are!" "They're so little, right? I mean his fingers are like Good & Plentys." "I know! I wanna eat 'em! ... Which is lame!" "Totally!" - That one moment when Jeff and Britta forgot they were supposed to be cool.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Chang's everything. Ugh.
~ The tag was kinda lame...

Rating
I would give this episode a nine out of ten. It could have been a ten, but there's too much Chang...

2x23- A Fistful of Paintballs

Episode Rundown-  So this is part one of the two-part paintball-inspired season two finale. The idea is that the Dean would like to end the year with another game of Paintball Assassin, but make this one shorter and much less intense. However, the ice cream company sponsoring the event announces that the winner receives $100,000 in cash so the game ends up being wayyyy more intense. Oops. There's also a mysterious player named The Dark Rider (a.k.a Sawyer from Lost!! Yay!!) that they all band together to defeat. They do, but only after they learn the real enemy is Pierce. And here's the most awesome part of the episode- each member of the group is represented by a card; i.e. Jack of Clubs, King of Spades, etc. Only Annie is part of a red suit- the Ace of Hearts. This is directly correlated to the vote they took the previous day on whether or not to keep Pierce in the group- Annie says the vote had to be unanimous but there was one red card. Hers. So damn awesome. Anyway, the ice cream company, which is a total fake, turns out to be City College, so now they're the enemies as well! Ahh!! Cliffhanger! The tag shows us scenes from the next episode and man, are they epic.

What Was Great
~ The whole card-nickname thing. I can't get over how genius that is.
~ Paintball! I love the paintball episodes.
~ The Dark Rider. I freaking love Josh Holloway, okay? He's the absolute best.
~ Annie being a badass. You don't usually see that side of her and it was pretty great.
~ Jeff- or really Joel- looking sexy as hell dressed in his cowboy garb. =D
~ "I heard a rumor you'd never shoot an unarmed man." "Whoever said that never ate my beans." "Well it's a good thing I'm not unarmed. Seeing as how I'm... eating your beans."
~ The adorable looks Troy and Abed get on their faces when the first see each other in the game. Classic.
~ "There's a bounty on your head, man." "... My forehead's not that big, right?" "It's not small."
~ Vicki and Garrett dancing in Fort Hawthorne. Hilarious.
~ The tag! It really got you pumped up for the next week.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Chang, as usual.
~ Pierce. I hate when he's the bad guy, as he so often is.

Rating
I would give this episode an eight out of ten. I love paintball and was glad to see it again!

2x24- For A Few Paintballs More

Episode Rundown- It's part two of the season two paintball-themed finale and the stakes have never been higher. The first part was spaghetti western, but this part is all Star Wars, with the City College members dressed as Storm Troopers and Abed spending the entire episode acting as Han Solo, with Annie as his Princess Leia. And my Star Wars knowledge ends there. I fell asleep watching it. Anyway, the group has a hard time agreeing on what way to take City College down, so they eventually compromise by choosing both Troy's plumbing idea and Jeff's quad stakeout. Troy rigs the sprinkler system with paint and he, Abed, Annie, and Shirley are in the library with a bunch of the storm troopers. But they get super stuck- Troy has an execution-like paintball death, Annie and Abed lock lips before meeting their end, and Shirley is left to finish off their job, turning on the sprinklers and sprinting outside. Meanwhile, on the quad, Jeff, Britta, Vicki, Leonard, Quendra and others are being completely obliterated by the Storm Troopers until only Britta's left. She doesn't have any clue what to do but Shirley shows up in a golf cart and the two badass mo-fos take out the rest of the City College students and Greendale wins!! Except... Not really. Shirley and Britta are both shot by a Storm Trooper and then that guy's shot by none other than Pierce. Okay, now Greendale wins!! The group owes everything to Pierce and tells him he can rejoin the study group, but he responds with, "No thanks. I'm done with you guys." And walks away. GASP. Cliffhanger! And the final tag of the second season involves Abed telling the janitor all about the paintball game. Good times, folks. Good times...

What Was Great
~ Everything. This finale was so fabulous I can't even fathom it. Even a few people from Cougar Town showed up for the fun!!

What Wasn't So Great
~ Nothing. Even the way they ended things with Pierce was great, because it was realistic. Would you go back to the study group if they treated you that way? I didn't think so.

Rating
I would give the second part of this finale a ten out of ten. It really ended things with a bang!

Alright, friends! That's it for season two! Check back soon for the third season because I'll be starting soon!!

Community Rewatch- 2x19, 2x20, & 2x21

So we're moving forward, folks! Only six episodes before the end of the season. Woo! So yeah. No sense it putting it off, right?

2x19- Critical Film Studies

Episode Rundown- This episode was Pulp Fiction and My Dinner with Andre-themed, so to me, having never seen either movie, it was basically useless. It's Abed's birthday and since Jeff and the group are aware of Abed's obsession with movies and Quentin Tarentino films, they decide to throw him a Pulp Fiction-themed birthday party at a diner. Before that, however, Abed asks Jeff to meet him at an upscale, 5-star restaurant and when he does, he finds that Abed is normal. He's grinning, making eye contact, and not making any movie references at all. It's strange. And so not Abed. At the diner, the group waits and nothing interesting happens. Finally, it's revealed that Abed's fancy dinner is just his way of referencing some film called My Dinner with Andre. Then they have Abed's party and everyone's happy, even Jeff who starts out being super cynical and moody, but ends up having a good time. Yay! And then the tag is Abed's birthday dinner, with Troy balking at the not-so-market-priced bill. Then they dine and dash!

What Was Great
~ "Nice sweater. Did it come with a golden retriever?"
~ Abed's Cougar Town obsession and tirade. So so good.
~ "And I said, 'No! That's a girl's costume!' And my mom said, 'It's fine! Indian boys have braids too!' There were only forty-five minutes left to trick-or-treat, so what could I do? I put the damn thing on and I went door to door. And everyone was saying, 'Oh, what a pretty little girl!' And by the third house, I stopped correcting them! Because, at the end of it all, I was just glad they thought I was pretty."
~ "I will give you 1200 dollars to cover damages if you would please give Britta her job back." "800 dollars and she stays fired?" "Deal."
~ The end, where they're all reenacting scenes from the movie (I'm assuming...?). So cute!
~ The tag- "WHAT MARKET ARE YOU SHOPPING AT?"

What Wasn't So Great
~ The episode in general. I just... It wasn't for me.
~ Too much Chang.
~ Pierce irritated me.

Rating
I would give this episode a seven out of ten as well. It's still Community, so I'm going too low here, but I didn't really enjoy this episode...

2x20- Competitive Wine Tasting

Episode Rundown- So this episode... yeah. It's super boring. The Abed storyline is great, the Pierce and Jeff storyline is eh, and the Britta and Troy storyline makes me want to pluck my eyes out. And Shirley and Annie are nowhere to be found. So the main story is that Jeff and Pierce are taking a blowoff class in which they get to sit around and taste wines and while doing so, Jeff hits on an attractive yet annoying Asian women, who blows him off. She takes interest in Pierce instead and that just does not sit well with Jeff. So he investigates and learns the real reason why. Britta and Troy take an acting class and Troy makes up a story about being molested- seriously not cool, Harmon- to get sympathy from his class. He also puts his usual demeanor of verbally attacking Britta left and right aside for an episode to develop a fleeting crush on her. Ugh. And then, the silver lining- Abed takes a class on the TV show Who's the Boss? in which he ends up teaching the professor who the boss clearly is. The tag, however, is also a high point- Troy, in an all-Black production of Fiddler on the Roof entitled Fiddla Please. Hysterical.

What Was Great
~ The entire Abed story was so cute. And the way he maps out the entire show and asks, "...So you can see it's very clear that the boss is-" and the professor, all astounded, responds, "Angela." So adorable!
~ Annie's only line, at the beginning, when she's telling Shirley not to take a joke-telling class. "I dropped after the lesson on set-ups. The professor is so old..."
~ The professor of said Who's the Boss? class and how at the end he opens his drawer to find a gun and a book called "What Was Happenin?" So great. I love when new TV references old TV. <3
~ The brilliant tag! "It's hard to be Jewish, it's hard to be Jewish, it's hard to be Jewish in Russia, yo!"

What Wasn't So Great
~ The Jeff/Pierce storyline
~ Britta and Troy! You have to stop with them. I just cannot.
~ The pretend "molestation" story. It's just not really something to joke about, I think.
~ Chang. Blegh.
~ The lack of Shirley and Annie. Lame.

Rating
This episode is getting a wavering six out of ten from me. Wavering because it probably deserves lower, but Abed's adorableness and Troy in his Jewish-wear saved the episode.

2x21- Paradigms of Human Memory

Episode Rundown- Also known as, in my opinion, the best episode of the second season. This introduced the concept of the fake clip show; in other words, whereas other shows will occasionally flashback to things that happened in the past that we've seen on the show, Community used these flashbacks to show us things that, to our knowledge, never really happened. Genius. So the group is making their final diorama for Anthropology when Annie's Boobs makes an appearance again and Chang all too willingly enters the school vents after him. He returns with a pile of things the monkey's taken and the group then reminisces about things we've never seen them do- visit a ghost town, fill in for the glee club, go camping, paint Shirley's nursery, and so, so much more. It's the most amazing thing ever and Dan Harmon is a genius for thinking of it. But they insult the Dean in the meantime and therefore the tag is an animated version of him exacting his revenge. Classic.

What Was Great
~ Absolutely everything. It's my absolute favorite episode of the second season and nothing in the episode feels out of place. It's legit perfect.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Absolutely nothing. ;)

Rating
This episode is obviously getting a well-deserved ten out of ten. It's fabulous.

We're entering the final stretch, now! Be on the lookout for more!

Community Rewatch- 2x16, 2x17, & 2x18

It is pouring here, guys. A good day for blogging, no? I plan on finishing season 2 today, but let's see how distracted I get by babysitting and the Olympics before I fully make that claim haha. Alrighty then. Here we go!

2x16- Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking

Episode Rundown- This episode is fabulous. It's a look at how Community would be if it was shot like Modern Family or any of those other multi-camera shows. So basically, it's Community at its laziest. =P So it's the aftermath of Pierce's overdose and the whole episode centers around Pierce trying to avenge himself by giving the group ridiculous gifts that have a price. Abed is excused from this because he's the filmmaker, but Shirley receives a CD of the group allegedly talking smack about her behind her back, Annie gets a tiara, Britta receives a blank check for $2000 or some outrageous amount, Troy gets a visit from his idol LeVar Burton, and Jeff has to tackle the idea of possibly seeing his father again. The episode is absolutely hysterical and the tag does not disappoint either- Troy and LeVar, having dinner. Fantastic.

What Was Great
~ Absolutely everything. Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt. (Catch the reference?)

What Wasn't So Great
~ Zero. Zilch. Nada. Nothing. =D

A spectacular, fabulous, magnificent ten out of ten. ;)

2x17- Intro to Political Science

Episode Rundown- So I'm not a huge fan of this episode for two reasons- anything that has to do with political science irritates me and it's a huge Jeff/Annie episode. Blegh. Other than that, it's not too bad... =P Supposedly Vice President Biden is going to visit the school, so the Dean stages a school-wide presidential campaign in which Annie- as well as Magnitude, Vicki, Starburns, Leonard, Garrett, and even Pierce- runs. Jeff thinks it's stupid and enters the competition just to spite her. Meh. Abed and Troy are the announcers (?) for the campaign with the most hilarious commentary ever. Also, Abed has a short-lived romance-kinda- with a Secret Service agent, which is adorable in an Abed sort of way. And then the ending tag is Abed and his agent on a "date"- she's watching him from the car. Ooookay...

What Was Great
~ "Ab Mentions," "Classic Wingers," and "Notches." Classic.
~ "He's visiting our school as part of his 'Biden Time talking about teaching tour!" "Hmm, folksy, yet progressive." "He does walk that line!"
~ "EVERYONE WANTS YOU TO SHUT UP." "And yet I won't! Case in point."
~ The Pierce and Vicki storyline. Hilarious.
~ "No matter what you're told, we have to clean the mold!"
~ "I believe that citizenkind need not be governed!"
~ Jeff's Real World video. So, so funny.
~ Troy and Abed's commentary. Absolutely hysterical.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Never mix television with politics or religion. Just causes trouble. =P
~ The Jeff/Annie-ness. Meh.
~ The lack of Shirley and Britta. They were just missing.

Rating
I would give this episode a seven out of ten. Some of it was hilarious. Most of it wasn't. =P

2x18- Custody Laws and Eastern European Diplomacy

Episode Rundown- This episode isn't my favorite, but I don't hate it like the rest of the fandom. Everyone seems to think it's the worst episode not only of the second season, but of the entire show's history. I think that's a bit harsh, but you decide. =P So Troy and Abed befriend this accent-ridden guy named Lukka (Why is it spelled with two k's? You tell me...) and tell Britta she's not allowed to date him, but she of course doesn't mind them and goes out with him anyway. Then she learns he's partly responsible for the mass genocide in the Balkans. Uh oh. She tells Abed and Troy, who don't want to hear it because she's already ruined so many of their guy friends. Eh, you can't win 'em all, Perry. Meanwhile, Shirley asks Jeff to convince Chang to sign over his hypothetical baby to Andre and Shirley and drama ensues. Jeff ends up jailed, but everything works out okay in the end. The tag happens to be the entire group distracted by their electronics and not speaking a word to each other. It sounds lame, but it's hilarious.

What Was Great
~ "Can I get a Ni Hao in this hizzy?" Ohhhh Dean Pelton <3
~ "We like him a lot, so you're not allowed to bone him." "You just guaranteed she'll bone him."
~ "Like Britta-ny Spears?" "Exactly like Britney Spears! Hit me with your genie's bottle! Rub it all over meeeee..." Oh my god. So funny.
~ "Jeff? I ruined Jeff?" "Oh, you mean Jeff 'Nipple-Play' Winger? No! As you can see, we're still hanging out with him! Hi, how's it going, Jeff?"
~ "You're not allowed." "Not allowed?" "You'll ruin him." "I'll ruin him?" "Stop repeating." "Stop rep-rimanding me and explain how I'll ruin him!"
~ "Aren't you like his mentor?" "Not cool, Shirley." "You have a rapport with him!" "Not cool, Shirley!"
~ "God bless you!" "Not lately."
~ "Oh look, is that a reason to leave?" Classic.
~ The tag. Pretty funny, I thought.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Way too much freaking Chang. Ugh.
~ Lukka. He was unattractive and he was a psychopathic killer. I do not see your interest, Britta.
~ The episode in general. I didn't hate it, but I could never hate it!

I would also give this episode a seven out of ten. It's good, but not great.
