A collection of all of my rants and ramblings about the television shows I watch and the people who make them. There will also be the occasional post about my life. =D

Community Rewatch- 1x22, 1x23, 1x24, & 1x25

Here we are! We made it to the end... of the first season, that is. I know I usually only do three episodes per post, but there's an odd number of episodes in the first season, so it doesn't quite work out mathematically. Hence, the four episodes we're doing now. Let's not delay any longer, folks!

 1x22- The Art of Discourse

Episode Rundown- So this is the episode where Jeff and Britta take on those bitchy high schoolers and though some may find it difficult to watch (Khali, Priya, looking at you), I find it quite hilarious. So these three bitches are taking courses for college credit and they think it's super hilarious to mock Jeff and Britta because they're thirty and still in college. Anyone else would let this go, but as Abed says, "Jeff and Britta have the two most fragile egos of the group," and therefore they must retaliate. The only problem? Everything they say to these bitchy teenagers is met with a simple reply of "Duhhhh!" Classy. And mature! So Britta's ingenious idea, well at least Jeff thinks so, is for Jeff to sleep with the lead doofus's mother, but even that backfires when the mother turns out to be exactly like her bastard-ass son. Blegh. Jeff and Britta win the "Duhhh!"-off, though, when Pierce and Shirley come to their aid and pants the kids. Wooooow...

Pierce and Shirley have this boring falling out in this episode because the former pantsed the latter and no one thought it was funny. They resolve this by both leaving the study group, talking it out, and then rejoining the study group. Meh. Troy and Abed, on the other hand, decide to fulfill Abed's Quintessential College Experiences list by pledging a cool fraternity, smashing guitars, having a food fight, etc. It's fantastic and looks like a lot of fun.

The tag is Troy and Abed talking about their "porn names" when porn music starts playing and wack-job pizza delivery guy comes it. It freaks them out, they runaway, and it turns out to just be Leonard playing guitar. Eh...

What Was Great
~ "Hey Britta, what'cha gonna knit-ta?"
~ Britta's "retro" discman- "How could you do this to me?!"
~ "He still assumes I'm a terrorist." "If you're not, I'm sorry. If you are, I'm a hero. I'm willing to take that chance."
~ Everyone making fun of Annie's gasps. Abed's is the best.
~ "When you found out I was Jewish, you invited me to a 'pool party' that turned out to be a baptism." "Well excuse me for trying to sneak you into Heaven!"
~ "They're making us walk around with pretzels in our butts. I put mustard on mine like an idiot."
~ "YOU NEED TO BANG THAT KID'S MOM." Lol I love Jeff and Britta in this scene because they're so proud of themselves for coming up with that stupid idea. Too good.
~The "Duhhhh"-off. Oh dear.
~ "Why are Jeff and Britta making fun of those handicapped kids?" HAHA.
~ The food fight. Always wanted to have one of those.

What Wasn't So Great
~Ahhh those bitchy kids. Cannot even.
~ Pierce and Shirley were annoying. Meh.
~ The tag. Double meh.

Rating
I'd give this episode and eight out of ten. It's hilarious, but the B and C stories were pretty lame...

1x23- Modern Warfare

Episode Rundown- Get excited for arguably the best Community episode ever- Modern Warfare. So the sexual tension between Britta and Jeff is keeping the entire group on edge and it's something they argue about at the beginning when the Dean comes in and informs them that as part of their Spring Fling, they'll be playing a game of paintball assassin, with the prize going to the last man standing. Everyone gets super pumped, but Annie wants to talk Britta-and-Jeff again, so, annoyed, Jeff goes to take a nap in his car. Until, an hour later, he awakens to find the campus completely destroyed. Leonard tries to shoot him, but Abed comes to his rescue, and soon, Jeff's in the game, playing with Troy, Pierce, and Abed until they take a pee break. But they're not the only ones in the bathroom...

Once they join forces with the girls, Troy, Pierce, and Annie are eliminated by the Glee Club, which the other four obliterate and then head into the cafeteria. Post-Ironic Disco Stu comes in with his followers and the group manages to take them all out, but Shirley and Abed are casualties. This means it's only Britta and Jeff left in the game. They retreat to the study room, where Britta patches his wound, and talk about their sexual tension before making out and having sex on the study room table. As they're getting redressed, Chang bursts in and begins shooting up the room in one of the most hilarious scenes ever. Britta sacrifices herself so Jeff can win, which he does by shooting up the Dean's office in search of the prize, the real prize- priority registration. The next morning, Britta and Jeff decide not to tell anyone about the events that transpired the previous night and Jeff, in recognition of her sons, gives the priority registration form to Shirley. Aww!

The tag is soooo hilarious, even if the bloopers are technically better. Troy is leaving Abed a voicemail trying to meet up at the flagpole, but he can't quite get the right tone. Jeff tries to help, but he just sounds like a jerk. Too good!

What Was Great
~ Everything. I kid you not.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Nothing. Literally nothing.

Rating
I would give this episode the very first ten out of ten. It is literally perfect.

1x24- English As A Second Language

Episode Rundown- The episode before the first-season finale, it serves as the end to their Spanish learning which means, or so I thought, the end of Chang. Basically, Annie wants to keep the group together, so she proposes that they take Spanish 103 in the fall, but no one really has any interest in it, least of all Jeff. So she proposes Anthropology so they'll still have something to study together and still no one really cares. That same day, Chang enters Spanish class, tells everyone but Jeff to leave, and then informs him that he's in the same situation Jeff is- his degree is fake and he's teaching the class phrases that he learned on Sesame Street. Sloppy, Dan. Anyway, Annie's recording device is on, so she learns about this and gets him fired so the group will have to retake Spanish. Crafty jackrabbit...

Their teacher is replaced by Doctora Escodera, a super intense woman fluent in Spanish and no one has any idea what she's saying. She tells them the test will be on all twenty chapters of the textbook and when everyone groans about failing and retaking Spanish, Annie sighs happily. The group finds out about her ratting out Chang- and about the infamous Disney face- and they basically excommunicate her. They pull an all-nighter studying for the exam but when Annie doesn't show up, they think Chang's killed her. They go to her rescue, take the exam, and thankfully all pass. They also decide to take Anthropology together their sophomore year and everyone's happy!

The tag is Abed checking the posted grades and realizing everyone's passed. When they all walk away, Pierce stops their teacher and thanks her for making it easy. It's revealed that the two had had sex and just... ew.

What Was Great
~ The beginning of saying things multiple times, i.e. "Anthropology? Anthropology? Anthropology?"
~ "Of course you think that, Britta. It's obvious from your name your parents smoked pot."
~ The beginning of the "Troy can be a plumber" storyline.
~ "Why's she teaching Spanish if she's a doctor? Go cure something!" Lol I love Troy.
~ "Someone make her a dude so I can punch her!"
~ "Now she is going to make the Disney face. Her lip is going to quiver and her eyes will flutter but they will never actually close!"
~ "Did the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants poison each other's food so they were too sick to leave? No! I've never seen it, but I'm pretty sure they mailed each other PANTS!!"
~ "Um, I can't wake up Pierce. Is this gonna take an unexpected turn?"
~ "We love Hannah! We love Hannah! We love Hannah!"

What Wasn't So Great
~ A whole episode centered around Chang... *shudder*
~ Doctora Escodera was a hardass.
~ Annie's immaturity. I'm her age and I wouldn't have pulled that BS.

Rating
I would give this episode a seven out of ten. Parts of it are hilarious, but otherwise it's meh.

 1x25- Pascal's Triangle Revisited

Episode Rundown- We've made it to the season 1 finale! So the idea for this episode is that Greendale is throwing a Transfer Ceremony, or Tranny Dance, and Britta's nominated for queen. Abed throws an end-of-the-year kegger and Troy is trying to find a new place to live, so he asks Abed subtly but the latter ignores his requests. During said kegger, Jeff tells Britta that if she doesn't go to the dance, they're not going to see each other for months, but she tells him it's "not a Jane Austen novel" and that they can use their cell phones. Just then, Slater comes back in the picture! Whaaat? She still has feelings for Jeff and this makes Britta super jealous, so she decides to go to the dance and try to win the title of Tranny Queen. Also, Vaughn (love him!) tells Annie he's transferring to Delaware because he's supposedly the new Ying Wang Macka Deng Deng Jr. and she decides to go with him. Yeah, I definitely made up that spelling, but it doesn't matter because I'm pretty sure he doesn't exist.

At the dance, Britta tells Shirley that she and Jeff had sex during paintball and Shirley tells her she should stop competing with Slater and communicate her feelings with Jeff. Annie tells everyone she's transferring to Delaware for the summer, but tells Jeff the truth- that she's moving there permanently. They all say goodbye to both her and Vaughn (three times, per tradition) and Pierce invites Troy to move in with him, which he accepts after Abed says if the two of them move in together, they'll jump the shark and end their friendship. Anyway, Slater and Britta have an argument about who's better for Jeff, the Dean calls Britta's name, and she begins to make an acceptance speech before he tells her she hasn't exactly won. Oops. The next thing she sees is Slater kissing Jeff, so she does what any insanely jealous person would do and announces to the room, "Jeff Winger, do not get back with Slater. I love you." This prompts Slater to tell Jeff she loves him too and Jeff, unable to choose, backs out of the room, finds Annie waiting outside, because she chickened out on her trip, and the two make out. Whaaaat?!?!

The tag is the cutest thing ever-it's Abed's video yearbook, with clips of the study group saying weird/funny/adorable things. Then a bunch of randos are like, "I can't believe I wasted money on this! I don't know any of these people!"

What Was Great
~ "My friend Gary's transferring!" "Good. I hope he transfers to HELL."
~ Duncan <3
~ The return of the "All my boys and all my peeps" rap. Omg so good.
~ Shirley doing her first keg stand. So funny!
~ "Why does Abed hate me?" "Are you kidding? Look at him. He probably hates America."
~ The giant cookie. Fab.
~ "Holy macaroni with pepperjack!"
~ Duncan's rap. Oh my God.
~ The tag was so cute!! Starburns: "I just want people to remember there's a guy in between these things..."

What Wasn't So Great
~Chang. Blegh.
~ Slater! I always liked you... But then you randomly showed up and caused all this drama. Ugh.
~ Everyone's decisions. Slater, Britta, Jeff, Annie. Everyone was messed the bleep up in this episode.

Rating
I would give this episode a solid eight. It's entertaining and I love drama, but it also made me crazy. Ugh. So much insanity!!

That's it, folks! We've seen the entire first season! Tune in soon for seasons 2 and 3!!

Community Rewatch- 1x19, 1x20, & 1x21

Okay, hi! Took my daily afternoon nap (it's sad I have to do this at 19-almost-20-years-old, but those kids wear me out, man) and I'm I'll ready to watch more Community! Only a few more episodes left of the first season! So let's get on with it!

1x19- Beginner Pottery

Episode Rundown- I can't think of a better episode to start the afternoon off with than this one. So Jeff chooses his "ultimate blow-off class" of the semester, Beginner Pottery, and Abed and Annie join him whereas Shirley, Troy, Britta, and Pierce take a sailing class. In said pottery class, there's the star of the show, Dr. Rich, who is only the most perfect human being ever. Anyway, Jeff pretends not to care that Rich is perfect at everything, medical things and pottery alike, but it's really driving him crazy. He stays up all night researching pottery moves to call Rich out and when he does, he gets kicked out of class for what the hilarious teacher calls "ghosting." Eventually he explains his intentions are pure and he's allowed back in the class to apologize and there's a happy ending. Aww!

Meanwhile, Pierce tries very hard to christen the boat their learning to sail on and to be captain, but Shirley's appointed captain first. Britta and Troy aren't really that important in this episode; it's mainly centered on the fact that Shirley's too nice to be the boat's captain and Pierce, as usual, effs everything up. When Pierce falls "overboard" and Shirley decides to get tough and leave him behind, Pierce one-ups her and comes back by rowboat... Only to hit a sprinkler and "drown." Shirley decides to be a good friend and has Starburns drive the boat over to Pierce, whom they save and still manage to pass the class. Hurray!!

The tag is a naked drooping Chang at the YMCA finding out he lost his clothes. Gross.

What Was Great
~ Jeff's entrance into the first day of pottery and how he addresses Annie and Abed: "Laura Ingalls, Home Depot guy..."
~ The pottery instructor. "Hello my precious blueberries! Hello!"
~ Rich. Love him.
~ "What are you making?" "A vase..."
~"That hat's gone, lost at sea." "I might be able to reach it. It landed on that Hyundai! I mean... mermaid's car..."
~ "Britta weighs five pounds, Troy can't swim, and I've never even seen the ocean!" "Uh, I can swim, racist!"
~ Donald's delivery on this line: "What in God's name have we done?" Priceless.
~ "It's the hilarious guy on guy!"
~ "Pierce is going to be the only guy ever to drown in a parking lot. Twice!"

What Wasn't So Great
~ The tag. Blegh.
~ Too much Chang, even though he was only in two scenes. Double blegh.

Rating
I'd give this episode an eight out of ten. It's hilarious, it introduced one of the best background characters, Dr. Rich, and even the bloopers are hilarious!
1x20- The Science of Illusion

Episode Rundown- It's April Fools Day, Human Beings! So the running gag for this episode is that Britta's a buzzkill and she doesn't particularly enjoy this mentality, so she sets out to prove everyone wrong. Her idea of a prank is getting a frog to wear a mini sombrero, as pictured above, with Sr. Chang's name on it. However, this backfires and she ends up killing the frog and sending a cadaver out the window. Jeff knows it was her doing, so before he can tell on her, Britta decides to fill his backpack with tiny Mexican items and frame him for the job. Eventually, she confesses to the group and complains about the moniker "buzzkill," which sets everyone off in a round of hysterics. Jeff cheers her up by calling the heart of the group and all is well again!

Meanwhile, Annie and Shirley find out that the Dean is hiring people to be part-time security for "these times of heightened shenanigans" (his words, not mine). Abed asks which one will be by-the-book and which one will be the badass and this launches them into a continuous argument over who is badass-er. Eventually, the two cause $78 worth of damages, so Abed dons a police chief personality and yells at the two to get their act together, which they do, in interrogating Jeff. Nice work, ladies.

And also, Jeff and Troy pull an April Fool's Day prank on Pierce, dressing him up like the Cookie Crisp wizard when he mentions he's about to become a "level six laser lotus" in his Buddhist community. He looks absolutely ridiculous, especially when they give him a wand with a cookie on the end and tell him it's a piece of meteor. Wow guys. Anyway, it's resolved during the aforementioned round of hysterics and everyone's happy again.

The tag is the most perfect thing ever. It's the very first time we ever see "Troy and Abed in the Morning." Perfection personified. <3

What Was Great
~ "You're like a fun vampire. Except you don't suck blood, you just suck." Oh Troy...
~ "Buddha arrived on a meteor!!" Yeah okay, Pierce.
~ When Annie spits on the ground, the Dean's delivery on this line: "Oh, Annie..."
~ "Mornin' boys. I'm Annie Edison. But people call me Psycho because I had a nervous breakdown in high school. My partner's a Christian housewife."
~ Chang: "I told you that in confidence!"
~ "GLENDA! Oh, I apologize..."
~ Annie and the mace. So funny.
~ Abed as the police chief. "Agitatin' my sciatica. I'm too old for this!"
~ "Nice frame job, Britta-dict Arnold." "Ooh, colonial burn!"
~ "Knock knock! Who's there? Cancer! Oh good, come on in! I thought it was Britta!"
~ Abed feeding Jeff popcorn lol
~ The glorious tag. Love love love.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Pierce annoyed me in this episode. Meh.
~ Glenda. Sorry, she's super old, but she was meh too.

Rating
I'd give this episode a solid eight out of ten. It was funny and the tag made my life.

1x21- Contemporary American Poultry

Episode Rundown-  This is the infamous chicken finger episode- the one that never fails to make me super hungry. This episode is in the style of a mafia movie, modeled off of Goodfellas (I think, I've never seen the movie), and involves Abed in the center of it all. Basically, the Greendale cafeteria is always running out of chicken fingers, which Annie says "are the only good things in the cafeteria." They find out Starburns, the fry cook, is scamming the students and slipping chicken fingers out the back door to his friends. Huh! Fancy that. So, the group decides to become all mafia-like and gets him fired. Aw...

They replace Starburns with Abed as the fry cook and then the group is super happy, because they always get chicken. The only problem is, as this continues, Abed gets higher and higher in his important role and the group begins to depend on him for things instead of Jeff, which makes the latter super jealous. So he abandons the group and tries to get Abed fired. Typical. Anyway, the rest of the members of the group are becoming spoiled brats and he decides to "send them a message." They get fed up with Abed, turn to Jeff again, and he goes to talk Abed out of being fry cook. I don't really think it gets resolved, but they end the episode by eating chicken fingers on top of the counter like in Sixteen Candles. Fab!

The tag is basically Troy and Abed being Troy and Abed. They've gathered everyone else, besides Pierce, to show them how they can "walk down the stairs" and do the "awesome elevator." It's meh, even after they switch clothes.

What Was Great
~ The beginning of the usage of "streets ahead." If you have to ask what it means, you're streets behind.
~ "Well I wouldn't know. I'm a vegetarian." "WOOOOW. Shocker!"
~ Abed's voiceover throughout the episode. So funny.
~ Troy as the pharaoh and Pierce's impression of Donald Trump
~ "To victory- it feels unfamiliar, but it tastes like chicken." Well done, Winger.
~ The idea of Annie's Boobs- "Please rename that thing! They are my body parts!"
~ "You want a shot at the Jeff Winger Throne? You better bring a powerful ass. Oh, and for your information, I don't have an ego. My Facebook photo is a landscape!"
~ "Travis is his middle name!" "I go by Travis!" "No, you go by the door." Lollll so funny.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Chang, blegh
~ The actual Annie's Boobs. I hate monkeys.
~ The way the group treats Abed when they get all high and mighty. Hahaha I don't know. I'm super protective of Abed. I love him <3
~ The tag. Too boring.

Rating
I would definitely give this episode a solid nine out ten. It's that fabulous. It's the first time we see them do a themed-episode and it sets the bar pretty high.

Woo! The next post will the last for Community's first season! Yay! We're almost done! See ya then!

Community Rewatch- 1x16, 1x17, & 1x18

Now I have "Annie's Song" stuck in my head. Thanks Vaughn. It's not even a good song... Anyway! We're coming to the tail end of the first season! I forgot how great this season was, honestly. I haven't seen a lot of these episodes in a while. So let's keep going!

1x16- Communication Studies

Episode Rundown- It's Valentine's Day, Human Beings! And this is a great episode. Like one of my favorites from the first season. So the episode opens with Jeff checking his voicemail and what do you know? He has a drunk message from Britta. Oh the humanity... He, of course, teases her about this nonstop all day, until she tells him to leave her alone for a little while. He tells Abed she's being super weird and Abed decides they must reenact the situation to restore the balance in their relationship. Though at first Jeff thinks this is a stupid idea, Abed explains that Britta's "thing" is that she cuts and runs and if Jeff continues to push her, she may leave and they'll all lose her. So Jeff decides to go along with it and oh jeez, what a drunken night they have...

Meanwhile, Troy and Pierce are upset when they don't receive any gifts from the Cupid Being, mainly because they don't have girlfriends. They send themselves gifts, but Chang finds out and finds this so ridiculous he spends an entire class making fun of them for being single. To get back at him, Annie and Shirley write a fake letter from Princeton offering Chang a job there, but he sees right through the joke and assumes the letter is from Pierce and Troy. As punishment for attempting to prank him, he forces them to escort him to the Valentine's Day dance, which they do, reluctantly. Annie and Shirley confess that they were the ones who sent the letter, but in an act of chivalry, Pierce and Troy take their punishment anyway.

When Jeff wakes up in Abed's dorm the next morning, he finds he made two outgoing calls the night before- one to Britta and one to Slater. Slater is super pissed at him when he arrives at the dance that night and he finds out it's because he called her only to hang up when he realized she wasn't Britta. Oops. So he's in the doghouse and Britta decides to mess with him a little, of course. But when Slater sees the two of them talking, she assumes the worst and then it's Britta to rescue, where she plays the first twenty seconds of a forty-minute, "very informative," drunk message, in which Jeff confesses Slater is the "perfect girlfriend." The two kiss and make up, literally, but as they're leaving, it's Jeff's turn to "look back" at Britta. What did I say earlier? The ultimate pinnacle of hope! ;)

The tag is pretty hilarious. Pierce and Troy, dressed to the nines in their ladies pantsuits Chang forced them to wear, are planning on leaving, but Chang drives up to the school on his moped and Pierce climbs on. They're going for frozen yogurt and didn't invite Troy! As they drive away, Troy shouts out, "SLUT!" You tell 'em, Troy!

What Was Great
~ The drunk dial- "Jeff Winger! I am calling you! You're probably... Whatever. So, wazzzupppp?!"
~ Abed explaining sarcasm. "I'm Abed! I never watch TV!"
~ Annie and Shirley being badasses. Love 'em.
~ Jeff basically doing everything to save his friendship with Britta. It's so cute how he wants friendships now, considering he wanted nothing to do with these people at the beginning of the year.
~ The entire drunk scene with Abed and Jeff. Oh my god. Everything was perfect.
~ Friends reference!
~ Jeff's description of Britta is spot on: "She wants everyone to be honest, but lies to herself. She's seen the world, but doesn't get it. She has more fights about stuff that doesn't matter than a YouTube comment section. She's passionate, which I find stupid... But entertaining." So great.
~ Jeff's drunk message: "So look... I am really happy with Michelle. Don't get me wrong, she's a perfect girlfriend. And I want you to be as happy as me because you're like my favorite friend so hahahaha. I'm sorry. Abed just made a turtle face."
~ Hungover, "broken" Abed. "I don't remember the name of the girl in The Breakfast Club. Mary. Margaret. Molly Ringworm. You broke me." HAHA.
~ The fantastic tag. 'Nuff said.

What Wasn't So Great
~ UGH. Chang! No one knows how to ruin a scene quite like Ken Jeong.

Rating
I loved this episode so much. I would give it a nine out of ten. Seriously. It's that fab. And it makes up for the awful season 2 V-Day episode. Ugh.

1x17- Physical Education

Episode Rundown- This is the infamous naked pool episode! So basically, Jeff thinks he's going to be super cool and play pool dressed like a tool (and apparently I'm now Dr. Seuss). He shows up in this leather ensemble and the teacher, Coach Bogner (could they picked a grosser name?) does not accept this in his "palace of the arts" or whatever. Jeff must play pool in shorts. Blegh. So he refuses, drops the class, and the continues to taunt him for the rest of the week about his fascination with "looking good." Finally, Jeff's sick of the BS and puts on his shorts, plays pool with the Bog, and wins! But then there's some argument about thinking Jeff looks cool so they both strip down, much to most people's dismay. Whatev. Super weird.

Meanwhile, Troy finds a drawing of Abed in his Spanish textbook with hearts all over him and when they present the book to Chang, he says it used to belong to Jenny Adams. The group then tries to coach Abed on how to pick up a girl, even though he's not interested in Jenny, and he does a bunch of impressions including Don Draper from Mad Men, which Annie falls for, before ultimately deciding on doing Jeff. He hits on Jenny, she falls for him and then surprise! She has a boyfriend who's a white version of Abed. Holy Twilight Zone. Also, Britta says bagel wrong. Instead of bay-gel, she pronounces it bag-gel. I know. What a GDB.

The tag is Troy and Abed doing a Bert and Ernie bit, but it goes wrong when Troy realizes there's somewhere he's supposed to be- his cousin's funeral. "I knew there was some reason I couldn't do this today!" Abed's response? "Poor Demitri."

What Was Great
~ Britta's whole "baggel" thing. So funny.
~ Jeff's tantrum- "Because I don't look cool in shorts!" *kicks things around*
~ Abed's impression of Jeff's tantrum- "Because I'm NOT cool in shorts!" *kicks things around*
~ Abed's impression of Don Draper, Jeff, and of course the vampire. Oh good God, it's hilarious.
~ "Shut up, Leonard. I talked to your son on family day. I know about your gambling." "Touche."
~ White Abed + Brown Joey = Perfection
~ "Lots of girls like me because, let's face it, I'm pretty adorable." Oh yes you are, Abed. <3

What Wasn't So Great
~ The pool storyline haha. I know that's the whole point of the episode but I found it boring.
~ The tag. Lame-o.

Rating
I would give this episode a seven out of ten. The seven's for the Abed storyline. The rest of the episode was blah.

1x18- Basic Genealogy

Episode Rundown- The family day episode! Hurray! This episode guest starred Katharine McPhee as Pierce's ex-stepdaughter... Yeah. So basically, Slater breaks up with Jeff in the hallway in a literally two-second conversation. Then, he flirts with this random girl who turns out to be related to Pierce. Ahh!! Anyway, Pierce strictly says to stay away from her, but Jeff and Amber decide to hook up anyway. That's when Jeff learns she's taking a bunch of money from him. Uh-oh! He good be a good person and tell Pierce or... He has sex with Amber again. He does tell Pierce, who doesn't mind, and then comforts Jeff when he sees Slater with another man. Oh dear...

Meanwhile, Britta thinks that Troy's mean old bag of a grandmother is cool because she's old and wise, but Troy's convinced she's a psycho. And she pretty much is. Being Britta, she manages to insult the woman within the first five seconds of meeting her and then, as punishment, has to find a "switch," or a stick Troy's G-ma can whoop her with. She spends all day finding the perfect stick, to which Troy responds, "Yeah, that's a great switch, Britta. Should hurt a lot." She presents it to the old bag, who tells her to bend over, and Britta was, apparently, expecting to get smacked on the hand. Psh, no honey. She pulls down her pants and gets over old bag's knees, who proceeds to smack her senseless. Over Britta's shrieks of pain, Troy yells, "I don't understand you, Britta!! I don't understand you at all!" Neither do I, Troy. Neither do I.

Also, Shirley's boys come to Family Day and so do Abed's father and cousin. Gobi makes a reappearance, y'all! And he's super strict with Abra, Abed's cousin, and get's pissed when Shirley's normally-behaving boys spill soda on his nice shirt. So Shirley yells at him for not being open enough to let Abra have fun, but when she goes to ask the girl a question, she realizes it's her boys underneath the berka (definitely spelled that wrong and don't really care) and Abra's in the bouncy house. Aww. To make things even better, it was Jordan and Elijah's idea, to which Abed says, "You're a really great Mom" or "You have great boys" or something equally endearing.

The tag involves Troy and Abed getting themselves purposefully stuck inside the vending machine. Abed realizes that if Troy pushes one of the buttons, it'll push Troy's cell phone into the receptacle and then they'll be able to call for help. Troy does so, but he accidentally presses the wrong button and lever goes somewhere it definitely shouldn't have...

What Was Great
~ Shirley's explanation of her boys' names: "Elijah, like the prophet, and Jordan, like the 14-time NBA all-star!"
~ Shirley greeting Abra: "Sorry, you're like a black ghost!"
~ Annie being Jeff's moral compass. "You're becoming dangerous, Annie. It's those doe-eyes. Disappointing you is like choking the Little Mermaid with a bike chain." Lol.
~ Gobi Nadir. He was an ass in this episode, but I love this guy.
~ Pictionary. "I don't think this going to stop until Pictionary bans the word 'windmill'." So so good.

What Wasn't So Great
~ Slater's breakup with Jeff. Tacky, Michelle. What are you, in middle school?
~ Amber. What a biotch.
~ Chang. Blegh.
~ Troy's biotch old bag of a grandmother. Blegh.

Rating
I would give this episode an eight of ten. It was good to see everyone with their families and such. Fab!

Community Rewatch- 1x13, 1x14, & 1x15

We're really cooking now, folks! We've made it to the halfway mark! We're midway through the first season! Crazy, huh? Well, no sense in small talk. Let's keep going, Human Beings! Episodes 13, 14, and 15 are waiting to be commented on!

1x13- Investigative Journalism

Episode Rundown- This was the first episode back from winter break and it featured Jack Black, which is probably why I didn't like this episode very much. I cannot stand Jack Black. Ugh. Anyway, he plays a student named Buddy who happens to be in the same Spanish class as they are and wants desperately to be allowed into the study group. But he's obnoxious and annoying and they want nothing to do with him, obviously. This makes him super upset and he throws a tantrum, which Jeff responds to by carrying him out of the study room like a child. Eventually, they feel bad about it and decide to allow him in the group, only to have him reject them so he can be in the "cool" group, which includes Owen Wilson, Starburns, and some rando Asian girl. Ooookay...

Meanwhile Jeff joins the school paper and appoints Annie as his star reporter. He regrets doing this when she finds out the Dean was involved in racial profiling and reporting this would, of course, jeopardize his position. They have an argument over her running the story, but eventually she doesn't and all is resolved. Yeah. It's a pretty dull episode, to say the least.

The tag was basically Troy and Abed trying out to for "the cool group" and being denied. Same thing goes for Pierce. Meh.

What Was Great
~ The beginning joke where Buddy says he doesn't want to throw the group off their natural- then it goes to the opening credits- rhythm... I laughed so hard.
~ "Spanish Studying is better when you're Buddy-ing!"
~ "Annie's pretty young. We try not to sexualize her."
~ Finding out Sr. Chang died- YAYYYY.
~ Gary! "He is a buzzkill" "He grew up in a land without sun!"

What Wasn't So Great
~ Jack Black. Meh.
~ The episode in general.
~ The tag. Laaaame.

Rating
I would give this episode a six out of ten. It didn't really do it for me, sorry friends...

1x14- Interpretive Dance

Episode Rundown- This episode was adorable and proved that Troy and Britta are great as friends and do not have to be romantic (hint hint writers and shippers). In this episode, we discover that Troy has secretly been taking modern dance and Britta has been secretly taking tap. They're shocked enough to learn of the other's secret, but swear each other to secrecy that the rest of the group shouldn't find out. But Britta, trying to feel secure with her new hobby, comes clean to the group... Only to have them laugh and make fun of her. As usual. Troy, seeing this, quits dance and tells Britta that he refuses to be a dancer because it isn't manly. She's disappointed in him, but he redeems himself at the recital when she chokes up after seeing Jeff with his new girlfriend, Professor Slater. Uh oh...

Speaking of which, Jeff, now that it's a new semester and he's no longer Slater's student, has been casually dating her for the past couple of weeks, away from the study group's eyes. However, they're making out in the library one day and are found out. Surprise! Via Pierce's Twitter account, the Dean finds out and makes them sign a form stating that a student-professor relationship is occurring. But Jeff says they're still "just friends." Uh oh! He and Slater have an argument over their relationship status, in which Jeff tells her he's scared of commitment (woooow shocker), and she agrees to continue dating him. They attend Britta's (and eventually Troy's) dance recital, hold hands, and this is what causes Britta to freak out, because, hey, she never thought he'd have a girlfriend and since he does, it means he's kinda over her. Ouch. Still, he brings her a bouquet of flowers at the end of the show and they leave things on good terms. The ending shot is Abed tap dancing ridiculously. Love that guy.

The ending tag is amazing. Troy is doing a crossword puzzle and all of the answers are the names of the study group members. Just... genius.

What Was Great
~ The rap- "All my boys and all my peeps! All my boys and all my peeps! All my boys and all my peeps! Like to wear nightcaps when they go to sleep! Yeah!" Oh my god. I was on the floor. The entire song is hysterical. Best line, though- "I rotate my mattress like every week." HAHAHA.
~ The dance Troy does in class and the one he and Britta do at the recital. Fabulous.
~ The Dean's ratings. Jeff as number two, Professor "Seven" Slater hahaha.
~ All of Troy's breakaway clothing
~ Troy- "You don't get to talk to me like that! You are not Shirley! ... And Shirley's not my mom!"
~ Poor Jim Belushi taking a beating hahaha
~ "Whoopie flipping ding, Winger." Oh Slater. Sometimes...
~ "I've got Goobers! Anyone want a Goober? Get 'em while they're gooby!" - Queen Shirley at her finest
~ Hate to sound like a shipper, but I thought the end, with Jeff bringing Britta flowers, was adorable. Just saying.
~ The perfect tag!! "Helen of..." "Troy." "Oh nice! I've never even heard of that..."

What Wasn't So Great
~ Britta thinking tap dancing is embarrassing. Um, I take offense to that, Miss Perry.
~ Everyone making fun of Britta for dancing. GUYS. Dance is so awesome, you don't understand... If you haven't noticed, I'm a dancer.
~ Pierce at the recital. Holy shit. He reminded me of those people who talk through important scenes at the movie theater. Just... shut up.

I would give this episode an eight out of ten. Lots of dance, which made me happy, and I love Britta and I love Troy, so it was great!

1x15- Romantic Expressionism

Episode Rundown- This is the episode that shippers of all kinds love- the one where we realized "anything goes." Dan Harmon established this range of ages in the group so that no romantic pairing can be ruled out as ridiculous. Anyway. The episode is all about Annie crushing on Vaughn and when Britta reluctantly okays their relationship, the two begin to date, Britta gets jealous, and then she and Jeff team up to try and pair her with Troy. Yeah. It doesn't exactly work out well.

Jeff thinks Vaughn's bad news and Britta doesn't want Annie dating her ex-boyfriend, so they team up to get her thoughts back on Troy. When they present Annie as an option to Troy, Britta of course ruins things by telling him Annie's completely in love with him, or at least used to be. This inflates his ego, but is completely deflated when she raucously turns him down. They both get super angry with Jeff and Britta, causing Britta to get equally as angry with the fact that Annie's dating her ex. This launches Jeff into a speech about how they're an incestuous family; unlike a real family, there's nothing stopping any one of them from seeing another as a sexual prospect. Thus, they allow Annie to date Vaughn, because they'd prefer if she dated outside of their creepy circle. Oh jeez...

Meanwhile, Abed and Troy watch bad movies for fun and invite Shirley to come along. Pierce joins, too, and soon the four of them plus Chang (ugh) are watching Kickpuncher, possibly the greatest fake movie ever. Everyone makes jokes during the movie, but Pierce can't get a genuine laugh, so he hires a sketch comedy group to prepare for next time. When he presents his material to the group, they all are suspicious about his jokes' origins and Pierce angrily storms out. Before he can, he trips over the popcorn bowl and falls to the ground, producing, much to his happiness, the biggest laugh of the night.

The ending tag is Troy and Abed being Kickpuncher and Punchkicker. They film fight scenes and all before they have to film a sex scene. Meh.

What Was Great
~ "Turning it into a snake!" Oh my god. Can't even. I miss this Britta. The one who was smart and awkward. She was so believable... But we'll get into this at a different time.
~ Jeff and Britta in this episode- this is when they're at their best. Hatching schemes to bring others down is hilarious. Also, this was the beginning of the Greendale Parents. Awesome.
~ Kickpuncher. Just... awesome.
~ The return of Vaughn!!
~ Troy, on Vaughn: "Well... He's a baby."
~ Annie's Song. Just as genius as his other two songs.
~ Leonard: "Thanks for eating all the macaroni!" Jeff: "Shut up, Leonard! Nobody even knows what you're talking about! ... I did eat all the macaroni. It's messed up that he knows."
~ "I mark you as spam." "Who the hell is Pam?"

What Wasn't So Great
~ All the shipping feels ;)
~ Why is Chang hanging out with them...? Meh.
~ The tag was laaame.
